FALUN RED

On a recent trip to Scandinavia, I was fortunate enough to experience the countryside landscape as well as the bustle of their vibrant cities. One recurring site throughout the countryside of Sweden and Norway are the rust colored barns and farmhouses that dot the lush grassy green fields and mountains. Falun Red refers to the red rust color which adorns so many of the country homes. The origin of the color began as a by-product from mines of copper ore. The inexpensive by-product became a widely applied color to country houses and barns in Scandinavia.
